Robert Eden was born on 2 September 1804. He was educated at Westminster School and studied at Christ Church, Oxford. He was ordained as a deacon and priest by the Bishop of Gloucester in 1828 and then he served in Weston-sub-Edge in Gloucestershire and at Messing and Peldon in Essex.
